Blessings for a New Year
As we set out on a new year. (Image of the side of a boat, from the perspective of one on the boat, sailing out into still, dark turquoise waters that fade out into a grey, foggy horizon)

Happy 2025! Can you believe it? I can't. I really can't.

This year is probably going to be A Lot, for each of us personally as well as for the nation, the world, everything everybody all at once. So I thought I might fortify us with some blessings from a range of brilliant poets. They're generally contemporary (Rukeyser died in 1980, Clifton in 2010, the others– 🪬 🧿 puh puh puh keinahora – are still with us.) Because sacred texts come from all sorts of times and places, as we know.

Read these slowly.

Take breaks.

Read them more than once.

Read them out loud, if you care to.

Or read them to someone else, if you'd like.

Soak them in.

Luxuriate in them.

Let them under your skin.
