Rabbi Danya Ruttenberg Aug 29, 2024 • 5 min read Nos Invisibles (1907) contains musings on the quest for spiritual serenity with gorgeous illustrations by the Italian watercolourist Raffaele Mainella. Its author — Charles d’Orino — was actually a nom de plume for Clotilde Briatte (1850–1910), a figure of Parisian high society best known, perhaps, for being the model in this portrait, as well as her fancy dinners and salons. The book claims to channel Balzac, Zola, Flaubert, and other major writers and thinkers from beyond the grave. The authenticity of this one can determine for themselves.
